What is a Certified Chiropractic Orthopedist?

Board certified chiropractic orthopedists are doctors of chiropractic that have completed extensive postdoctoral education in non-surgical orthopedics, and have passed rigorous specialty Board examinations leading to Diplomate status as a chiropractic orthopedist. Less than 2% of chiropractic physicians attain this status.

To become Board certified, the chiropractic orthopedic specialist is required to demonstrate advanced proficiency in the evaluation and non-operative management of a broad range of injuries, conditions and disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system with particular emphasis on the spine and extremities.

Here’s more about Chiropractic Orthopedists, also known as Chiropractic Physicians…

Chiropractic Orthopedists are Chiropractic Physicians who can be licensed in all 50 states, Canada and many other countries of the world. The Chiropractic Orthopedist has extensive, specialized training in examination and treatment procedures emphasizing primarily the neuromusculo-skeletal structures of the body including the spine and extremity joints, and related soft tissue structures. This involves conditions affecting bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and related nerve structures.

A chiropractic orthopedist successfully completing a rigorous examination process by a chiropractic orthopedic certifying body is a Certified Chiropractic Orthopedist and eligible to become a fellow of the academy of chiropractic orthopedists.

What types of conditions do a chiropractic orthopedist care for?

The chiropractic orthopedist handles both acute health problems such as sports, occupational and other injuries, as well as more chronic conditions including arthritis, scoliosis and fibromyalgia, using advanced procedures of x-ray, magnetic resonance (MRI) and computed tomography imaging (CT scanning), electrodiagnostic studies (EMG, nerve conduction), and clinical laboratory procedures to assist in the diagnostic process.

How does a chiropractic orthopedist care for their patients?

In the course of treatment, the chiropractic orthopedist applies manipulative/adjustive procedures along with other treatments such as physiologic therapeutics, nutrition, joint supports, corrective devices, exercise and rehabilitation regimens, preventive care advice, and home therapy programs for patient wellness.

Who can benefit from a chiropractic orthopedist?

The chiropractic orthopedist is often used by medical practitioners for consultation, by legal professionionals and the insurance industry for evaluation and treatment of patients, and the courts for the giving of expert testimony but most of all, patients with the conditions listed above.

Patients who suffer from conditions which have not responded favorably to previous treatment may seek a doctor with specialized training in advanced non-surgical orthopedic procedures and diagnostic methods.
